For Bloomberg Businessweek, I photographed three small business owners working out of unique buildings designed to look like what they sell in “mimetic” architectural style popularized since the 1920s to attract motorists. This assignment took me to Tail ‘o the Pup and Idle Hour restaurants in Los Angeles, the Big Shoe repair shop in Bakersfield, CA and Mary Lou’s Milk Bottle in Spokane, Washington.

I worked with Rivian to create an image library at the electric vehicle maker’s community hubs in Venice and Laguna Beach, California.

“Feast For My Grandma’s 90th Birthday In Izium, Ukraine” from my long term personal project Where they Wait for Me about my family in Ukraine won the Still Life category of Lucie Heritage Awards. A huge thank you to the jury!

My family prepared a feast to celebrate my grandma’s 90th birthday in Izium, Ukraine in eastern Ukraine in March of 2020. This was the last time we were all together before the pandemic, my grandma’s passing at the age of ninety-one, and Russia’s invasion of Izium. This image is from my long term personal project Where They Wait for Me, a meditation on memory, family and my ancestral home in Izium, Ukraine. The photographs I made between 2010 and 2020 now serve as a historical record of peaceful life stolen by a senseless and cruel war.
